conduct is adhered to accordingly. Without right knowledge, on whom one should have his faith and without right faith, right conduct cannot be practiced. So the composition of right knowledge, right faith and right conduct has been mentioned here. It is further intimated that with right knowledge and right conduct combination, compassion, broad-mindless, true awakening, inclination towards charity, detachment and trustworthiness appear in life. He then commands respect, trust and honour everywhere.
२२३. तए णं से जियसत्तुराया अण्णया कयाइ महत्थं जाव पाहुडं सज्जेइ।
चित्तं सारहिं सदावेइ, सद्दावित्ता एवं वयासी-गच्छाहि णं तुमं चित्ता ! सेयवियं नगरि, पएसिस्स रन्नो इमं महत्थं जाव पाहुडं उवणेहि। मम पाउग्गं च णं जहाभणियं - अवितहमसंदिद्धं वयणं विन्नवेहि।
त्ति कटु विसज्जिए। ॐ २२३. चित्त सारथी को श्रावस्ती नगरी में रहते-रहते पर्याप्त समय हो चुका था।
एक बार जितशत्रु राजा ने बहुत मूल्यवान उपहार तैयार किया और चित्त सारथी को * बुलाया। बुलाकर कहा- 'हे चित्त ! तुम सेयविया नगरी जाओ और यह
महाप्रयोजनसाधक-(जिसे देखने से मन प्रसन्न होकर अनुकूल हो जाये ऐसा) उपहार प्रदेशी राजा को भेंट करना तथा मेरी ओर से विनयपूर्वक निवेदन करना कि आपने मेरे लिए जो संदेश भिजवाया है, उसे उसी प्रकार अवितथ–पूर्णतः प्रामाणिक एवं असंदिग्ध रूप से स्वीकार करता हूँ।"
ऐसा कहकर चित्त सारथी को सम्मानपूर्वक विदा किया।
223. Sufficient time had passed since the arrival of Chitta Saarthi in Shravasti.
Once king Jitshatru got prepared a very costly gift and called Chitta Saarthi. He then said—“O Chitta ! You go to Seyaviya town
and present this pleasing multi-purpose gift to king Pradeshi and * convey him on my behalf respectfully that I accept his message in
