सूत्र ६१. फिर राजा श्रेणिक ने सभी अठारह जातियों (कुंभकार आदि) और उपजातियों (उपश्रेणियों) के प्रतिनिधियों को बुलाया और कहा - "हे देवानुप्रियो ! आप सब राजगृह नगर के भीतर-बाहर दस दिनों तक अपनी कुल परंपरा के अनुरूप पुत्र-जन्मोत्सव मनाने का ऐसा प्रबन्ध करें- इस शुभ अवसर पर दस दिन के लिए चुंगी तथा कृषि - कर, पशुओं का लगान आदि माफ कर दिया जाय। सभी दुकानों से बिना नापे-तोले और मूल्य चुकाए सभी प्रकार की सामग्री दिये जाने की व्यवस्था हो । कर वसूली आदि के लिए जाने वाले कर्मचारीगण दस दिन के लिए छुट्टी पर चले जायें। अदण्ड और कुदण्ड समाप्त कर दिया जाये। जनता के ऋणों को माफ कर दिया जाये। नगर में प्रसिद्ध नर्तक - नर्तकियों के नृत्यों और नाटकों का आयोजन किया जाए। उत्सव के दिनों में लगातार मृदंग बजते रहें । नगर और देश के सभी वासी प्रसन्नचित्त हो मनोरंजनपूर्वक समारोह में भाग लें। दस दिनों तक यह उत्सव निर्बाध चलता रहे। ये सब प्रबन्ध कर मुझे सूचित करें।" वे सब प्रतिनिधि राजाज्ञा शिरोधार्य करके गये और कार्य संपन्न कर राजा को सूचित किया।
61. King Shrenik then summoned representatives from all the eighteen castes and sub-castes and said

"O beloved of gods! Make all necessary arrangements for a ten day birthday festival to be celebrated in and around Rajagriha according to your respective family traditions. During the tenure of these auspicious festivities all municipal and agricultural taxes should be withdrawn. All provisions, in whatever quantities needed, should be distributed free from all shops. The tax collection staff should be sent on a holiday. Minor and major punishments should be discontinued. Public loans should be written off. Performing artists of fame should be invited to perform dances and dramas. During these festivities Mridangs (a specific type of drum) should be played non stop. All the people of the city and the country should join the celebrations with joy and enthusiasm. For ten days these festivities should continue without a pause. Please comply and report back.”
The delegates took leave after accepting the king's order. After complying with the instructions they soon reported back.
सूत्र ६२. तए णं से सेणिए राया बाहिरियाए उवट्टाणसालाए सीहासणवरगए पुरत्याभिमु सन्नसन्ने सइएहि य साहिस्सिएहि य सयसाहिस्सिएहि य जाएहिं दाएहिं दलयमाणे दलयमाणे पडिच्छेमाणे पडिच्छेमाणे एवं च णं विहरति ।
