2. As a bumble-bee sucks pollen from flowers just a little at a time and satisfies its need without harming the flowers in x any way, . . .
३ : एमेए समणा मुत्ता जे लोए संति साहुणो।
विहंगमा व पुप्फेसु दाणभत्तेसणे रया॥ उसी प्रकार संसार में जो ये परिग्रह आदि से मुक्त श्रमण साधु हैं, वे (दान + भक्त) दाता द्वारा दिये गये निर्दोष आहार की एषणा एवं भोजन वैसे ही -करते हैं जैसे भ्रमर फूलों से रस ग्रहण करता है॥३॥
3. . . . so are these absolutely detached shramans. They seek and gather faultless food from numerous houses exactly as the bumble-bees gather pollen from flowers. विशेषार्थ :
श्लोक ३. समण-'श्रमण' शब्द का भाववाचक अर्थ है-सम-मण-अर्थात् जिसका मन राग-द्वेष रहित हो, साम्य-भाव-मध्यस्थ वृत्ति युक्त हो और सबको आत्म समान मानने वाला हो। साधना में श्रम व तप करने वाला 'श्रमण' कहलाता है। प्राचीन समय में श्रमणों के पाँच सम्प्रदाय थे-निर्ग्रन्थ (जैन), शाक्य (बौद्ध), तापस, गैरिक तथा आजीवक (गौशालक अनुयायी) किन्तु यहाँ पर श्रमण के साथ 'मुक्त' विशेषण उसके सर्वथा अपरिग्रही निर्ग्रन्थ होने का सूचक है।
ELABORATION:
(3) Saman-Shraman-One who is free of attachment and aversion, is equanimous, and believes in the equality of all beings. Also, one who is steadfast in his spiritual practices and austerity. In the remote past there were five independent Shraman schools— Nirgranth (Jain), Shakya (Buddhist), Tapas, Gairik, and Aajeevak (the followers of Gaushalak). But the adjective mukt (free) indicates that here it means absolutely detached nirgranth or Jain ascetic.
४ : वयं च वित्तिं लब्भामो न य कोइ उवहम्मइ।
अहागडेसु रीयंति पुप्फेसु भमरा जहा॥
