धर्म वृक्ष की तीन शाखाएँ THE THREE BRANCHES OF THE DHARMA-TREE धम्मो मंगलमुक्किट्ठ-धर्म को एक विशाल वृक्ष के रूप में चित्रित कर उसकी तीन मुख्य शाखाएँ बतायी हैं
Dharma has been depicted as a giant tree having three main branches. The branches are--
१. अहिंसा-षड्जीवकाय की हिंसा नहीं करना तथा प्राणि-रक्षा, मैत्री, करुणा और आत्मतुल्य भावना रखना। अहिंसा-शाखा की दस पत्तियों के रूप में अहिंसा के इन दस रूपों का संकेत किया है।
1. Ahimsa-Not to harm any of the six classes of beings and to nurture such feelings as amnesty, fraternity, compassion, and equality towards all beings. These ten forms of ahimsa have been shown as the ten leaves on this branch.
२. संयम-धर्म वृक्ष की दूसरी शाखा में संयम के सत्रह भेदों का संकेत सत्रह पत्तियों द्वारा किया गया है। संयम के सत्रह भेद इसी श्लोक के विशेषार्थ में बताये गये हैं।
2. Samyam (discipline)—The seventeen sections of discipline described in the elaboration of this verse have been shown as the seventeen leaves of another branch.
३. तप-अनशन, ऊनोदरी आदि के रूप में तप के बारह भेदों का संकेत बारह पत्तियों द्वारा दर्शाया है।
अहिंसा-संयम-तप रूप उत्तम धर्म में जिसका मन रमण करता है, उसे देवता एवं चक्रवर्ती आदि मानव नमस्कार करते हैं। ऐसा धर्म ही भाव-मंगल है। द्रव्य मंगल के रूप में अष्ट मंगल एवं शंख तथा श्रीफल आदि बताये गये हैं।
(अध्ययन १, श्लोक १) 3. Tap (austerity)--The twelve sections of austerity, including fasting, dieting, and others have been shown as twelve leaves of the third branch.
Even gods and men of high status revere the person who follows this three branched Dharma or the august attitude. At the bottom are shown the eight auspicious objects flanked by a conch-shell and coconut.
