adhesive and excitement. Passions are colors that tarnish the soul. They are unguents that create layers of karmic dust on the soul. They have an adhesive capacity and make the karmic particles stick to the soul. They manifest as excitement and make the soul lose its natural balance. Thus, all the four meanings of kashaya or passion convey the relationship of soul and karma. विनय एवं स्वाध्याय का उपदेश ४१ : रायणिएसु विणयं पउंजे धुवसीलयं सययं न हावइज्जा।
कुम्मुव्व अल्लीण-पलीणगुत्तो परक्कमिज्जा तवसंजमम्मि॥ मोक्ष के लिए साधनारत साधु को अपने से दीक्षा ज्येष्ठ एवं ज्ञान आदि में वृद्ध आचार्य, उपाध्याय की विनयपूर्वक भक्ति करनी चाहिए तथा शील (आचार) | सम्बन्धी दृढ़ता में कभी हानि नहीं करनी चाहिए। कछुवे के समान अपनी इन्द्रियों तथा अंगोपांगों को गुप्त रखकर तप-संयम की क्रियाओं में तत्परता के साथ । पुरुषार्थ करते रहना चाहिए॥४१॥ HUMBLENESS AND SELF-STUDY
41. A shraman indulging in spiritual practices should humbly worship the acharyas and upadhyayas who are his senior and are superior in knowledge. He should never relinquish the strength of his moral character and ascetic conduct. He should conceal his senses and limbs like a tortoise and continue the practice of discipline and austerity sincerely. विशेषार्थ :
श्लोक ४१. राइणिएसु-रात्निकेषु-जो भी आचार्य, उपाध्याय, साधु दीक्षा-पर्याय में तथा ज्ञान आदि भाव-रत्नों में ज्येष्ठ हों वे रालिक कहलाते हैं।
