पृथ्वीकाय की हिंसा करने वाला केवल पृथ्वीकाय की ही हिंसा नहीं करता, अपितु उस पर आश्रित नाना प्रकार के जो त्रस और स्थावर दृश्य और अदृश्य प्राणी हैं, उन सभी की हिंसा करता है ॥ २८ ॥
7. NEGATION OF HARMING EARTH BODIED BEINGS
27, 28. A disciplined shraman never harms any earthbodied being through any of the three means-mind, speech or body or any of the three methods-do, induce or approve.
One who does so does not harm earth-bodied beings alone but also puts to harm a variety of visible and invisible mobile and immobile beings that are dependent on earth.
विशेषार्थ :
श्लोक २८. यह इंगित वर्तमान संदर्भ में अत्यधिक महत्त्वपूर्ण हो गया है। इसका पर्यावरण से सीधा और गहरा सम्बन्ध है। किसी जीवन का हनन मात्र ही हिंसा नहीं है, अपितु जीवन जिस पर आश्रित है उसको नष्ट करना भी हिंसा है।
ELABORATION:
(28) This statement has acquired important significance in the prevailing circumstances. It has a profound but direct bearing on the environment as it states that violence is not only the destroying of life but also the destroying of the ecology that nurtures life.
जीव-हिंसा दुर्गति को बढ़ाने वाला भयंकर दोष है यह अच्छी तरह जानकर साधु जीवन पर्यन्त पृथ्वीकाय के समारंभ का परित्याग कर दे ॥ २९ ॥
२९ : तम्हा एअं विआणित्ता दोसं दुग्गइवड्ढणं । पुढविकायसमारंभं जावज्जीवाइं वज्जए ॥
29. Understanding well that harming life is a terrible fault that leads to bad rebirth, an ascetic should refrain from harming earth-bodied beings throughout his life.
