Monks in Buddhist tradition did not cook food themselves but they got it cooked by others, accepted food prepared specially for the group of monks by a host, and asked for packed food for their travels. They did not consider as fault any violence committed in name of the organization. Some mendicants committed violence against plant kingdom. Some others did not accept food specially prepared for them but consumed un-filtered water. This aphorism points at all such traditions. (Acharanga Bhashya, p. 365) Dandbhi-violence fearing.
