Their destiny is to ascend, at last, beyond the bondages of the karma of the six colorings. "Because God is a Man," we read again in Swedenborg's Divine Love and Wisdom (and here it becomes clear that the human shape of the heavens can be identified with God himself), "the whole angelic hcaven in the aggregate resembles a single nian, and is divided into regions and provinces according to the members, viscera, and organs of inan. Thus there are societies of heaven which constitute the province of all things of the brain, of all things of the facial organs, and of all things of the viscera of the body; and these provinces are separated from each other, just as those organs are separated in man; moreover, the angels know in what province of man they are. The whole heaven has this resemblance to man, because God is a Man. God is also heaven, because the angels, who constitute heaven, are recipients of love and wisdom froin the Lord, recipients are images.” 69 The corollary, of course, is that the human organism is a reflection of heavens: “The multitude of these little glands (which constitute the human brain) may also be compared to the multitude of angelic societies in the heavens, which also are countless, and, I have been told, are in the same order as the glands." 70 "It has not been granted me to see of what form hell is in the whole: it has only becn told me, that as the universal heaven, viewed collectively, is as one man, so the universal hell, viewed collectively, is as one devil, and may also be exhibited to view in the shape of one devil." 71 "It has hitherto been supposed in the world, that there is a certain individual devil who rules over the hells; and that he was creatcd an angel of light, but afterwards 6:9 ]b., 288.
