Sarvaghātin and Deśaghātin According to the karma theory, as we have stated before, the eight karmans are divided into two groups. The first group consists of Jõānāvaraniya, Darśanāvaraniya, Mohanlya and Antarāya. It is known as ghātio, because, it suppresses the natural qualities of soul. The second group consists of Vedaniya, Āyuşya, Nāma and Gotra. It is known as aghātin, because, it does not suppress the qualities of soul. It is mainly related with new creation. The gbāti-karmans are further classified in the following types known as uttaraprakstis : 1. Jñānāvaraniya ... 2. Darśanāvaraniya ... 3. Mohaniya ... Four passion multiplied into four grades ... Nine Nokasāyas (mild) passions... Darśāna mohanlya ... 4. Antarāya ... In all there are forty-seven ghātiprakstis. They are divided into two groups, according to their potency to suppress or observe the corresponding spiritual quality. The prakstis which suppress the corresponding quality completely are known as sarvaghātinis and those which do so partially are deśaghātiois. ...16 ...9 Out of the above forty-seven prakstis the following are sarvaghātinis : 1-2.
