Tenets of jiva and ajīva. The author of the Niryukti has given a brief list of the contents of the Uttaradhyayana, wlich provides only a broad outline. If we go into detail, the subject matter becones vast ard varied. We find here a clear delineation of the dispensations of Lori Pārśva and Lord Mahāvīra A better and more orderly description of the doctrines of the vedika and śramanic culture through dialogues is not found in any other Agama. There is an attractive combination of religious stories, spiritual sermons and philosophical doctrines in the Uttarādhyayana whichcan be safely regarded as a text representative of the philosophy of Lord Mahāvra.
