चौया उद्देशक] [355 अवमरात्निक (शैक्ष) भिक्षु का यह आवश्यक कर्तव्य है कि वह रत्नाधिक को प्रमुखता स्वीकार करके ही उनके साथ रहे। उसी प्रकार दो या अनेक प्राचार्य, उपाध्याय, गणावच्छेदक भी एक साथ रहें या विचरण करें तो दीक्षापर्याय से ज्येष्ठ प्राचार्य आदि का उचित विनय-व्यवहार करते हुए रह सकते हैं। यह विधान एक मांडलिक आहार करने वाले साम्भोगिक साधुओं की अपेक्षा से है, ऐसा समझना चाहिये। यदि कभी अन्य साम्भोगिक साधु, प्राचार्य, उपाध्याय या गणावच्छेदक का किसी ग्रामादि में एक ही उपाश्रय में मिलना हो जाय और कुछ समय साथ रहने का प्रसंग आ जाय तो उचित विनयव्यवहार और प्रेमसम्बन्ध के साथ रहा जा सकता है, किन्तु सूत्रोक्त उपसम्पदा (नेतृत्व) स्वीकार करने का विधान यहां नहीं समझना चाहिए। यदि अन्य साम्भोगिक के साथ विचरण या चातुर्मास करना हो अथवा अध्ययन करना हो तो उनकी भी अल्पकालीन उपसम्पदा (नेतृत्व) स्वीकार करके ही रहना चाहिए। सूत्र 18 9-10 चौथे उद्देशक का सारांश प्राचार्य एवं उपाध्याय को अकेले विचरण नहीं करना चाहिए और दो ठाणा से चौमासा भी नहीं करना चाहिए, किन्तु वे दो ठाणा से विचरण कर सकते हैं और तीन ठाणा से चातुर्मास कर सकते हैं। गणावच्छेदक को दो ठाणा से विचरण नहीं करना चाहिए और तीन ठाणा से चातुर्मास नहीं करना चाहिए। किन्तु वे तीन ठाणा से विचरण कर सकते हैं एवं चार ठाणा से चातुर्मास कर सकते हैं / अनेक प्राचार्य आदि को एक साथ विचरण करना हो तो भी उपयुक्त साधुसंख्या अपनी-अपनी निश्रा में रखते हुए ही विचरण करना चाहिए और इसी विवेक के साथ उन्हें चातुर्मास में भी रहना चाहिए। विचरणकाल में या चातुर्मासकाल में यदि उस सिंघाड़े की प्रमुखता करने वाला भिक्षु काल-धर्म को प्राप्त हो जाय तो शेष साधुनों में जो श्रुत एवं पर्याय से योग्य हो, उसकी प्रमुखता स्वीकार कर लेनी चाहिए। यदि कोई भी योग्य न हो तो चातुर्मास या विचरण को स्थगित करके शीघ्र ही योग्य प्रमुख साधुओं के या प्राचार्य के सान्निध्य में पहुंच जाना चाहिए। आचार्य-उपाध्याय कालधर्म प्राप्त करते समय या संयम छोड़कर जाते समय जिसे प्राचार्य-उपाध्याय पद पर नियुक्त करने को कहें, उसे ही पद पर स्थापित करना चाहिए। वह योग्य न हो और अन्य योग्य हो तो उस प्राचार्यनिर्दिष्ट भिक्षु को पद 11-12 13-14
