________________ सज्जनः । Acknowledgment of others' good qualities, a heart capable of following the wishes of others, salutary and sweet words, admitting one's own defects : these are the secrets to enchant others without any incantation. अ- परिक्षिय-कय- कज्जं सिद्धपि न सजणा पसंसंति । सुपरिखियं पुणोवि हु कियंपि न जणेइ वयणिज्जं ॥ १५ ॥ अपरीक्षितकृतकार्यं सिद्धमपि न सज्जनाः प्रशंसन्ति । सुपरीक्षितं पुनरपि खलु कृतमपि न जनयति वचनीयम् ॥१५॥ The virtuons do not praise even the success of an act not tested before, and well-tried thing though accomplished, does not receive censure ( ht. prodnce speech, looked upon with blame). भद्दपणेव होअव्वं पावर भद्दाणि भओ । सविसो हष्णए सप्पो भेरुडो तत्थ मुञ्चइ ॥ १६ ॥ * भद्रकेणैव भवितव्यं प्राप्नोति भद्राणि भद्रकः । सविषो हन्यते सर्पो द्वीपी तत्र मुच्यते ॥ १६ ॥ One should be of an amiable disposition; for a goodnatured person attain prosperity: a poisonons serpent (if found) is killed but a verunda (a species of leopard) is released. *See H.
