क्लीबास्ते तापसा येन क्षमा तेषां मया कृता । सारङ्गसमवृत्तीनां निर्वासेन कृतागसाम् ॥ ३३३॥ वसतां गुरुगेहेषु क्षमात्यन्तगरीयसी । कृता सा हि हितात्यन्तं संजाता परमोदया ॥ ३३४ ॥ उक्तमेव ततस्तेन तारनिष्ठुरया गिरा । भो भो हस्तिपकान्येन नय देशेन वारणम् ॥ ३३५॥ ततो हस्तिपकेनोक्तमहो ते धृष्टता परा । यन्मनुष्यं गजं वेत्सि स्वं च वेत्सि मतङ्गजम् ॥३३६॥ नूनं मृत्युसमीपोऽसि यन्मदं वहसे गजे । ग्रेहेण वा गृहीतोऽसि ब्रजास्मादाशु गोचरात् ॥३३७॥ विहस्य स ततः कोपाल्लीलया कृतनर्तनः । सान्त्वयित्वाङ्गनाः कृत्वा पृष्टतो गजमभ्यगात् ॥ ३३८ ॥ विद्युद्विलसितेनासौ करुणेन ततो नभः । उत्पत्य दशने पादं कृत्वाऽरुक्षन्मतङ्गजम् ॥३३९॥ ततः क्रीडितुमारेभे गजेन सह लीलया । दृष्टनष्टैः समस्तेषु गात्रेष्वस्य पुनर्भुवि ॥३४०॥ पारम्पर्यं ततः श्रुत्वा कृत्वा कलकलं महत् । विनिष्क्रान्तं पुरं सर्व द्रष्टुमेतन्महाद्भुतम् ॥३४१॥ वातायनगताश्चेक्षांचक्रिरे तं महाङ्गनाः । चक्रुर्मनोरथान् कन्यास्तत्समागमसंगतान् ॥३४२॥ आस्फालनैर्महाशब्दैर्मु हुर्गात्रविधूननैः । कृतोऽसौ निर्मदस्तेन क्षणमात्रेण वारणः ॥ ३४३ ॥ हर्म्यपृष्ठगतो दृष्ट्वा तदाश्चर्यं पुराधिपः । सिन्धुनामाखिलं तस्मै प्रजिघाय परिच्छदम् ॥३४४॥ ततः कुथाकृतच्छाये नानावर्णकमासुरे । आरूढः स गजे तस्मिन् विभूत्या परयान्वितः ॥ ३४५॥
कोमल प्राणीका ही पराभव करता है, कठोर प्राणीको दुःख पहुँचानेकी वह इच्छा भी नहीं करता ||३३२|| वे तपस्वी तो अत्यन्त दीन थे इसलिए मैंने उनपर क्षमा धारण की थी । उन तपस्वियोंने आश्रम से निकालकर यद्यपि अपराध किया था पर उनकी वृत्ति हरिणोंके समान दीन थी साथ ही वे गुरुओंके घर रहते थे इसलिए उनपर क्षमा धारण करना अत्यन्त श्रेष्ठ था । यथार्थ में मैंने उनपर जो क्षमा की थी वह मेरे लिए अत्यन्त हितावह तथा परमाभ्युदयका कारण हुई है || ३३३ - ३३४|| तदनन्तर हरिषेणने बड़े जोरसे चिल्लाकर कहा कि रे महावत ! तू हाथी दूसरे स्थानसे ले जा ||३३५|| तब महावतने कहा कि अहो ! तेरी बड़ी धृष्टता है कि जो तू हाथीको मनुष्य समझता है और अपनेको हाथी मानता है || ३३६ || जान पड़ता है कि तू मृत्युके समीप पहुँचनेवाला है इसलिए तो हाथीके विषय में गर्व धारण कर रहा है अथवा तुझे कोई भूत लग रहा है । यदि भला चाहता है तो शीघ्र ही इस स्थानसे चला जा । ||३३७|| तदनन्तर क्रोधवश लीलापूर्वक नृत्य करते हुए हरिषेणने जोरसे अट्टहास किया, स्त्रियोंको सान्त्वना दी और स्वयं स्त्रियोंको अपने पीछे कर हाथीके सामने गया ||३३८|| तदनन्तर बिजली की चमक के समान शीघ्र ही आकाशमें उछलकर और खीशपर पैर रखकर वह हाथीपर सवार हो गया ||३३९|| तदनन्तर उसने लीलापूर्वक हाथी के साथ क्रीड़ा करना शुरू किया । क्रीड़ा करते-करते कभी तो वह दिखाई देता था और कभी अदृश्य हो जाता था । इस तरह उसने हाथी के समस्त शरीरपर क्रीड़ा की पश्चात् पृथ्वीपर नीचे उतरकर भी उसके साथ नाना क्रीड़ाएँ कीं ॥ ३४० ॥ तदनन्तर परम्परासे इस महान् कल-कलको सुनकर नगर के सब लोग इस महाआश्चर्यको देखने के लिए बाहर निकल आये || ३४१ || बड़ी-बड़ी स्त्रियोंने झरोखोंमें बैठकर उसे देखा तथा कन्याओंने उसके साथ समागमकी इच्छाएँ कीं ||३४२ || आस्फालन अर्थात् पीठपर हाथ फेरनेसे, जोरदार डाँट-डपटके शब्दोंसे और बार-बार शरीरके कम्पनसे हरिषेणने उस हाथीको क्षण-भर में मदरहित कर दिया || ३४३ || नगरका राजा सिन्ध, महलकी छतपर बैठा हुआ यह सब आश्चर्य देख रहा था । वह इतना प्रसन्न हुआ कि उसने हरिषेणको बुलानेके लिए अपना समस्त परिकर भेजा || ३४४ || तदनन्तर रंग-बिरंगी झूलसे जिसकी शोभा बढ़ रही थी तथा नाना रंगों के चित्रांमसे जो शोभायमान था ऐसे उसी हाथीपर वह बड़े वैभवसे १. -मेवं म. । २. गृहेण म. । ३. दृष्टनष्टसमस्तेषु म. ।
