________________ Chapter 18: Conclusion 234 Nishchay Väni Sambhali, Sädhan Tajvän N'oy; Nishchay Räkhi Lakshamän, Sädhan Karvän Soy. Do not give up the means after hearing about the absolute viewpoint; make proper use of the means by keeping the absolute viewpoint in mind. 131 - Explanation & Discussion: This stanza provides a useful hint to the people unduly resorting to the absolute viewpoint, which was explained in Chapter 2. That view emphasizes the basic nature of the pure soul as uninteracting, unbound, unaffected, and every soul as good as the liberated one. Its purpose is to indicate the ultimate potential of the soul so that one may endeavor to manifest the potential. One must remember that though soul is inherently pure, currently it is under the impact of Karma. Although the existing Karma is eventually stripped off by bearing the consequences, the worldly soul acquires new Karma while bearing the fruits of the old Karma, due to its craving and aversion. Therefore one has to avoid such indulgence and for that purpose, he needs to resort to the appropriate means. The people resorting to the absolute point of view conceive of the pure state of the soul as existing forever. They believe that the soul cannot be stained or defiled, and the soul's apparent impurity is illusory. They conclude, incorrectly, that nothing needs to be done to achieve the soul's purity. They remain contented with the mere knowledge of the original pure state, and stand against making any specific effort to manifest it.
